Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) as well as Chris Watson (born in Paris). After relocating to Oxfordshire when she was five, she enrolled in The Dragon School. Emma's ambition was to become an actor. As a young girl of 6she was enrolled into the Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch, where she took classes for acting, singing and dance. She had already performed in a variety of Stagecoach or school shows by the time she was ten years old. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) was the film adaptation of J.K. Rowlings bestselling novel was cast for the first time at the beginning of 1999. Emma was initially discovered as a casting representative by her Oxford drama teacher. David Heyman told Emma along together with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe after they all had eight straight auditions. Emma's debut on screen came with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's release in 2001. It was the highest-grossing film of 2001, the film set records for its opening day opening and opening weekend takings. Critics have praised both the film and the performance of the three principal young actors. The Daily Telegraph, an important British publication, described Emma's performances "amazing". Emma won the Young Artist Award as the Leading Young Actress for the Feature Film. She was later nominated five times for her role in the movie.
